Lanco Infra, KVK Energy, Rajasthan Sun among 37 selected for solar project

The government has awarded solar power projects aggregating 620 MW to 37 companies which participated in a recent auction, according to NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd.

The 620 MW would be generated from 470 MW of solar thermal power and 150 MW of solar photovoltaic power, NTPC Vidyut said today.

NTPC Vidyut, a unit of NTPC Ltd is the government's designated agency for procuring solar power under India's National Solar Mission.

The mission aims to set up a generation capacity of 20 GW of solar power by 2022 and in the first phase, the government aims to establish 1,100 MW of grid-connected power plants, 100 MW of rooftop systems and 200 MW of off-grid systems by March 2013.

According to NTPC Vidyut, Lanco Infratech Ltd, KVK Energy Ventures Pvt Ltd and Rajasthan Sun Technique Energy Pvt Ltd, a unit of Reliance Power Ltd, have been allotted 100 MW of solar thermal projects each, the largest allotment in the auction.

Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd, Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd and Corporate Ispat Alloys Ltd have been awarded solar thermal projects of 50 MW each, while Mumbai-based Aurum Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd has been given the remaining 20 MW.

The 150 MW of solar photovoltaic projects were distributed between 30 companies, with each company getting a 5 MW project.
