Experts from the University of Alberta, Canada have teamed up with prestigious Rice University of Houston, Texas to work in the area of nanotechnology for development of clean energy solutions.

Premier Ed Stelmach said that in both Alberta and Texas energy is the core focus and innovation is the future.

He added that combining the energy and nanotechnology expertise of teams in Alberta and Texas could help in delivering technology solutions that have not be even considered as yet.

On Monday, Stelmach signed a memorandum of understanding with Rice University as a follow up to two recent missions to Texas.

According to Advanced Education and Technology spokesman Earl Mckenzie researchers from the nanotechnology centres at the universities would visit each other's facilities and prioritise joint projects.

The agreement provides for collaboration on projects aimed at enhancement of sustainable energy development and lead to development of clean technologies, he added.
