Sushilkumar Shinde lays foundation stone of 1000 MW NTPC–Mauda thermal power project

Union minister of power Sushilkumar Shinde yesterday laid the foundation stone of NTPC's Mouda thermal power project at Mouda near Nagpur in Maharashtra.

NTPC will is investing Rs5,459.28 crore in Mauda, which is its first project in Maharashra.

The Mauda project will have two units of 500 MW each and on completion, the station will supply power to the states of western region.

The state-run power utility had earlier almost scrapped the thermal power plant for want of coal linkage, till Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd agreed to supply coal to the proposed plant at Mauda.

NTPC proposes to add a generation capacity of over 22,000 mw during 11th Plan period, and has initiated a move to place letter of awards for five of these projects with the total capacity of 5,300 mw.

Apart from Mauda, it will also take up the Barh II (2×660 MX), North Karanpura (3×660 mw) and the Nabinagar joint venture (4×250 mw), for which tt will make equity investment of up to Rs1,188.26 crore in Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Ltd, its subsidiar. for executing this project in Bihar.

NTPC will also execute the renovation and modernisation of Kawas Gas Power Station (645 MW) in Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs597.49 crore and Chief minister Ashok Shankarrao Chavan, Vilas Muttemvar, minister of state with independent charge, new and renewable energy and Dattatraya Tatkare, minister of energy, Maharashtra, had flown to Mouda to attend the ceremony.

R S Sharma,CMD, NTPC, and other senior officials from the power ministry and NTPC were also present.
