India and Brazil have agreed to establish a working group for furthering cooperation in the areas of pharmaceuticals and life sciences. Brazil also expressed keen interest in collaboration with India in joint production of essential drugs for fighting HIV, AIDFS, malaria etc.

The two countries discussed the issue during the ongoing visit of India's minister of commerce, industry and textiles Anand Sharma.

During her state visit to India in March 2012,  Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff the President had invited Sharma to visit Brazil for advancing bilateral relations, as also to address the larger issue of making essential drugs available at affordable prices to people of both the countries.

Sharma is accompanied by a pharma delegation of 15 top Indian companies coordinated by Pharmexil.

During talks with his counterpart Fernando Pimentel, Brazil's minister of development, industry and foreign trade, in Brasilia, Sharma also invited Brazilian investment in India's infrastructure sector.

Sharma is in Brazil on invitations extended to him by his counterpart Pimentel and Brazilian foreign minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
