Canada's Valeant Pharmaceuticals to acquire Russia’s Natur Produkt for $180 mn

Canadian specialty pharmaceutical company Valeant Pharmaceuticals International yesterday said that it will acquire its Russian peer Natur Produkt International, JSC, for about $180 million in order to add more over-the-counter (OTC) products to its portfolio.
Founded in 1993, Saint Petersburg-based Natur Produkt has a significant presence in the OTC segment with over 30 different brand names, and some 200 products.
Its key brands include AntiGrippin, a leading cough and cold remedy, Anti Angin, Sage and Eucaplyptus MA brand names, leading sore throat remedies.
Natur Produkt is represented in 13 countries, including CIS, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Estonia and Bulgaria.
Russia is the largest market for Natur Produkt brands that are sold by over 20 thousand pharmacies across the country.
Valeant will acquire Natur Produkt for approximately $180 million, and pay $5 million more in potential future milestones.
