Atlas Cycles and Shanku Group have decided to take a plunge into the pharma sector.

Atlas, a household brand in India for its cycles, has decided to enter the pharma sector because of its strong potential. The fourth generation of the founders, which has joined the family business has decided to go ahead with these plans.

At its behest, Atlas carried out a rigorous 12-month study of several industries with regard to current and future potential, before zeroing in on pharmaceuticals.

Shanku Group, which set up up India's first water park in Mehsana district in Gujarat, has also chosen to enter the pharma sector with a new entity, Shanku's Bio-Sciences Pvt Ltd.

Shanku's Bio-Sciences has two divisions - product development and customise synthesis. The company has also set up a di-calcium phosphate plant at Kalol (Gujarat).

Earlier it was the Surya group that moved from electrical engineering to pharmaceuticals and now calls itself Surya Pharmaceuticals.
