Mumbai: Advanta India, a subsidiary of  United Phosphorous, has acquired the sunflower seed business of US-based Limagrain, the Bangalore-based seed company said in a release.

The acquisition, carried out through its subsidiary, consists mainly of the sunflower breeding programme of Fargo, North Dakota-based Limagrain, the release said.

Advanta said the acquisition would enhance its ability to service customers in the US and Canadian markets as well as provide a broader product base to offer to our international customers.

Limagrain is engaged in breeding and marketing sunflower hybrids for both the domestic and international markets using multi-channel and private label marketing and distribution models.

Advanta said the acquisition would further strengthen Advanta's already existing sunflower breeding programs across the world. At present, the company has a major market share across the Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America.
