SpiceJet spices up the Chennai air passenger market

Chennai: Even after the advent of private airlines, the Chennai-Mumbai route is quite costly. And SpiceJet Limited with its current fleet of five Boeing 737-800 aircraft has decided to change that. The low-cost, no frills airline is now connecting southern cities like Chennai and Hyderabad with Mumbai, and Delhi and Kolkata with an promotional fare.

The airline offers Chennai - Mumbai ticket for anything between Rs999-1,500. The regular fare is Rs1,799. It is offering similar fares on its Delhi-Chennai,Hyderabad-Chennai,Hyderabad-Kolkata and Kolkata- Chennai sectors. The special fare is valid till the end of November 2005.

According to chairman Siddhanta Sharma, the addition of two more cities - Chennai and Hyderabad - takes the airlines route network to 11 key markets. The number of daily flights goes up to 38.
