New Delhi: The cable industry has said that the option of offering dual feed of pay channels — both encrypted and free — is not viable.

A group of multi-system operators (MSOs) and cable operators today met senior officials of the information and broadcasting ministry. "They were agitated on dual feed because they felt that this will further delay the implementation of CAS," say ministry sources.

Also, dual feed is technically possible at digital head-ends and not at analogue head-ends. It could also be viable in large areas where a single MSO operates, they add.

Some independent cable operators who later met I&B Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said they have rejected the offer of dual feed. They continued to maintain that if CAS is not implemented, the monthly cable subscription rates could go up to about Rs 500.
