Reeling under severe power cuts and water shortage, Delhi citizens came out on the streets to highlight their plight.

Many areas in the National Capital Region have been facing power cuts of eight to 10 hours duration along with water shortages.

With high temperatures and a delayed monsoon, demand for power in the region went up to 4,107 MW, considered to be a first in its history. The load shedding was recorded at 1,040 MW.

According to Delhi Transco officials, it was only today that the emergency power cuts were conducted when a 400-KV sub-station in Mandola was shut down in an emergency between 6am to 10am.

For the past two days many regions in Delhi have been facing load shedding. Power cuts from two to eight hours were reported from the areas of Karol Bagh, Mukherjee Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khaz, Janakpuri, Mayur Vihar, Dwarka, Palam and Dilshad Garden.

Protestors went up to to home of Delhi's finance minister A K Walia to protest against the power cuts and also blocked Vikas Marg and burnt tyres, along with targetting the BSES office at Laxmi Nagar.
