German auto components maker Continental AG on Wednesday said it will introduce a range of low-cost auto parts for small cars in order to tap the growing demand in the high-volume segment.

''India is one of the prominent markets for small cars and hence is our focus in the segment. These components have been reduced in size, which has led to reduction in cost,'' said Claude d'Gamarose, managing director, Continental Automotive India. The company would supply components like electronic control unit (ECU) and immobilisers, he added.

During the ongoing Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi, the thrust of almost all carmakers has been on small cars. Companies like Toyota and Honda showcased their concept small cars for India, while General Motors and Volkswagen launched Beat and Polo respectively.

Continental Automotive, which has put in Rs400 crore in its India operations since 2007, is undergoing an overall capacity expansion exercise at its Bangalore facility.
