Supermarket Tesco in a restructuring of its distribution system in the UK would close down three centres and transfer 2,000 jobs.

According to the supermarket, the posts would be moved to two new centres in Berkshire and London.

Centres would close at Harlow in Essex with the loss of 800 jobs, Barlborough near Chesterfield where 400 people worked and Weybridge in Surrey with a staff strength of 650.

Magor in Monmouthshire employing 800 people would cut 150 staff.

According to the Usdaw union national officer Joanne McGuinness, this was an absolutely devastating blow for members and their families.

She added, the union would enter into a 90-day consultation with Tesco to explore all possible options to reduce any job losses.
