Police have swooped on nine Amway stores across Kerala following complaints of cheating by the direct marketing company. Police officials said cases of cheating have been registered against the company in three districts.

"Raids were conducted at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kannur and Wynad," P Jayanath,  superintendent of police, said.

Amway, however, refuted allegations of cheating and said the police action without making sufficient investigation and without notifying the company of the nature of the complaint has come as a "rude shock" for the company.

Amway blamed the police for "harassing" its distributors and forcing them to give false complaints against the company over the past one month. Amway also alleged connivance of some police officials in the harassment.

Amway India said the company offered 100 per cent money-back guarantee for its products while also providing business opportunity to many an unemployed.  The company started commercial operations in the country in May 1998.

Meanwhile, the Ernakulam Press Club today registered a complaint against Amway for preventing a photographer on duty.
