The government is set to launch a single window clearance system for setting up of hotels, according to tourism minister Kumari Selja.

''The hoteliers have to seek permission from both the central and state governments and various authorities to set up hotels. The single window clearance system will minimise the hurdles,'' Selja said in Jaipur yesterday.

Selja was speaking on the sidelines of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry event 'The Great India Travel Bazaar 2010'.

The  proposal which she said had been cleared by a committee of secretaries would be sent to the cabinet soon. She said ''Once the system comes into effect, they (hoteliers) will send the proposal only to the centre.''

Additionally, a hospitality development and promotion board would be set up both in New Delhi and in states which would be a dual headed board according to tourism secretary Sujit Banerjee.

The board would be headed by the tourism secretary at the centre, while it would be headed by chief secretaries at the state level.
