Surgeons in Amritsar remove 40 knives from man’s stomach

A man swallowed 40 knives over a period of two months, which had to be surgically removed from his stomach, according to a doctor who led the operation.
"He had a wild urge to consume metal. Even for us, experienced surgeons, it was frightening," Dr Jatinder Malhotra told CNN.
"We were so nervous... a small mistake could have taken the patient's life. In my 20 years of practice, I have never seen anything like it."
According to Malhotra, it took his team around two days to form a diagnosis and put together a surgery plan.
The man was operated upon in Amritsar, a Sikh holy city in Punjab.
Malhotra added the team of doctors found foldable knives, which when fully extended were about seven inches long.
According rto Dr Malhotra the patient claimed to have swallowed some knives folded, and some unfolded. "When we took out the knives -- some were found folded, some were open, and some had even started rusting and were broken," he said.
The patient told CNN he was feeling much better. " I'll be forever thankful to doctors and hospital staff for saving my life," he said.
Dr Malhotra said, "In my 20 years of practice, this is the most dreadful surgery I have seen," The Times of India reported quoting the surgeon.
