Subway will be telecasting a new TV spot in the US featuring Michael Phelps this week. Despite controversy over Michael Phelps' marijuana use earlier this year, Subway continues to stand by the Olympic swimmer. The new TV spot featuring Phelps promotes Subway's $5 footlong offerings.

The swimmer announced the debut of the new ad on his Facebook fan page. The 15-second ad shows Phelps underwater gesturing with his hands the $5 footlong. The camera remains submerged as Phelps peaks out of the pool and says: "Hey guys, can I get one of those?"

Subway signed Phelps as a spokesperson in November 2008 and has since introduced several ads with the swimmer, including one in July dubbed "Be Yourself." It showed how easy it is to personalise sandwiches at Subway.
