Mumbai:
The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) has approved a Rs5,611-crore
project for six-laning 838 km of national highways, including the Gurgaon-Jaipur
and Panipat-Jalandhar highways, finance minister P Chidambaram said after the
CCEA meeting. The
six-laning of four sections of the existing four-lane national highways will be
taken up under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, the minister said. Six-laning
of the 225.6 km Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur national highway alone is estimated to
cost Rs1,517 crore. The
projects, to be taken up under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP)
at an estimated cost of Rs 5,610.77 crore, will also cover 239 km Surat-Dahisar
national highway (Rs1,355.47 crore), 82.5 km of the Chilkaluripet-Vijaywada highway
in Andhra Pradesh (Rs540.30 crore) and the 291 km Panipat-jalandhar national highway,
at an estimated cost of Rs2,198 crore.
