Paradip Port Trust emerges top performer among major ports in 2015-16

Paradip Port Trust has received the Best Performance Award from the shipping ministry with best improvement in efficiency parameters for the year 2015-16..

Paradip Port Trust has achieved outstanding efficiency parameters among major ports. Vessel turn round time has been drastically reduced by 36 per cent from 7.01 days in 2014-15 to 4.50 days during 2015-16. Similarly, berth day output has also increased by 19 per cent from 17,736 metric tonnes to 21,139 metric tonnes.

The mechanised coal berths being used for loading the thermal coal for power plants located in southern states have also recorded throughput increase by 23 per cent from 32,880 tonnes to 40,440 tonnes.

N Vaiyapuri, deputy chairman of PPT, received the award during the review meeting held at Panaji, Goa.

VO Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin, received two awards, one for achieving second highest growth in traffic for the year 2015-16 and another for attaining second position in RFD target achievement for the year 2015-16 among the 12 major ports.

Union minister for shipping Nitin Gadkari presented the award at a functionin Goa on Sunday.

This is the first time that the shipping ministry has conferred various annual achievement awards for major ports.

It is pertinent to note that VO Chidambaranar Port handled an all time record Cargo Traffic of 36.85 million tonnes during the financial year 2015-16 and surpassed the previous year's achievement of 32.41 million tonnes, recording an increase of 13.7 per cent. The port also crossed the ministry's target of 36.80 million tonnes by handling 36.85 million tonnes for the year 2015-16.
