Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is implementing a project to develop different types of electrolysers, including Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyser, Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser, and Solid Oxide Electrolyser (SOE) as also hydrogen Fuel Cells and Storage Cylinders. Minister for new and renewable energy and power, R K Singh, gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched by the ministry of new and renewable energy in January 2023, the CSIR project, with an outlay of Rs75 crore, aims at achieving efficiency in the production of electrolysers and fuel cells.

Department of Science and Technology (DST) is actively supporting local production of  hydrogen and fuel cell, including development of related materials, catalysts, membrane, components for fuel cells, electrolysers, materials for hydrogen storage systems (including type IV cylinders) as well as prototypes for various applications of hydrogen and fuel cells.

The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) is implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), with the overarching objective of making India a global hub for production, usage and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

NGHM, with an outlay of Rs1,466 crore, will provide financial support to pilot projects in sectors like steel, mobility (transport), shipping, decentralised energy applications, hydrogen production from biomass, hydrogen storage, etc.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims at creating a conducive ecosystem for a hydrogen-based economy.

NGHM, with an outlay of Rs1,466 crore, will provide financial support to pilot projects in sectors like steel, mobility (transport), shipping, decentralised energy applications, hydrogen production from biomass, hydrogen storage, etc.

Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the government provides guidance for developing a vibrant research and development ecosystem which can help in the commercialisation of green hydrogen.

NGHM has allocated Rs400 crore for promoting research and development programmes, including through a public-private partnerships, a roadmap for which was released in October last year.
