Consumer price inflation eases slightly to 3.66% in August

Consumer price inflation based on the consumer price index eased slightly to 3.66 per cent in August from 3.69 per cent in July. Consumer price inflation for August last year stood at 7.03 per cent.

Food price inflation, however, was slightly higher at 2.20 per cent in August 2015 compared with 2.15 per cent in the previous month. It was 8.70 per cent in August 2014.

Official data released on Monday also revised the consumer price inflation level for July to 3.69 per cent from 3.78 per cent reported earlier.

Provisional estimates of consumer price inflation for urban areas stood at 2.67 per cent in August 2015 against 2.94 per cent in July 2015. Consumer price inflation level in August 2014 was 6.39 per cent.

Consumer price inflation for rural areas, however, increased to 4.47 per cent in August 2015 from 4.35 per cent in July 2015. Consumer price inflation level in August 2014 was 6.39 per cent. It was 7.67 per cent in August 2014.
