Consumer price inflation for agricultural and rural labourers down in September

The all-India consumer price inflation based on the consumer price indices for agricultural and rural workers stood lower at 12.78 per cent and 12.44 per cent, respectively, in September 2013, against 13.21 per cent and 12.89 per cent, respectively, in August 2013.

Consumer price inflation based on food price index for agricultural and rural workers stood at 13.27 per cent and 13.08 per cent, respectively, during September 2013, official data released on Friday showed.

The all-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for September2013 increased by 5 points  and 6 points, respectively, to at 759  points each.

The rise / fall in the index varied from state to state.

In the case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase of between 1 and 19 points in 19 states and a decrease of 6 points in one state. 

Haryana with 836 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 608 points stood at the bottom.

In the case of rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 and 19 points in 18 states, a decrease of 7 points in one state and remained stationary in one state. 

Haryana with 830 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 640 points stood at the bottom.

Haryana registered the maximum increase of 19 points each  for agricultural labourers and rural labourers, mainly due to increase in the prices of wheat atta,  bajara atta, vanaspati, meat goat, milk, ghee, onion,  vegetables and fruits, firewood and shirting cloth cotton mill. 

On the other hand, Karnataka registered a decline of 6 points for agricultural labourers and 7 points for rural labourers, mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, jowar, mustard oil, poultry, chillies green, vegetables and fruits and earthen ware.
