Consumer price inflation hits double digit at 11.17% in December

Consumer price inflation based on the all-India consumer price index numbers for industrial workers (CPI-IW) stood at 11.17 per cent in December 2012, up from 9.55 per cent in the previous month.

Consumer price inflation for industrial workers was 6.49 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Food inflation stood at 13.53 per cent in December 2012 against 10.85 per cent of the previous month and 1.97 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

The All-India CPI-IW for December 2012 rose by 1 point to 219.

On a month-on-month basis consumer price inflation increased by 0.46 per cent between November and December 2012 compared with a negative (–)1.01 per cent change between November and December 2011.

The largest upward change in current index came from miscellaneous group, which increased by 1.08 per cent, contributing 0.49 percentage points to the total change. This was followed by clothing, bedding and footwear and fuel and light groups with increases of 1.17 and 0.92 per cent, respectively, contributing 0.13 and 0.10 percentage points to the change.
