Consumer price inflation for agriculture, rural labourers up in September

Consumer price inflation for agricultural and rural workers in the country, based on the consumer price index for agricultural and rural labourers (CPI-AL and CPI-RL), increased to 9.43 per cent and 9.93 per cent, respectively, in September from 9.18 per cent and 9.34 per cent, respectively, in August 2012. 

Inflation based on food price index for CPI-AL and CPI-RL stood at 9.05 per cent and 9.20 per cent, respectively during September 2012.

The all-India consumer price index (CPI) numbers for agricultural and rural labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) increased by 7 points and 8 points, respectively, to 673 points and 675 points in September 2012.

The increase in the index varied from state to state.

In case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase varying from 1 to 19 points in 20 states.  Haryana with 757 point topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 555 points stood at the bottom.

In the case of rural labourers, the index recorded an increase between 1 and 17 points in all the 20 states. Haryana with 750 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 577 points stood at the bottom.

CPI for agricultural and rural labourers recorded the maximum increase in respect of Uttar Pradesh, where it increased by 19 points and 17 points, respectively, mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat, wheat atta, bajra, pulses, mustard oil, vegetables and fruits, sugar, gur, cotton saree (mill-made), cotton shirting cloth (mill) and Anacin.
