India's H1-FY11 indirect tax collections up 44.4 per cent

Revenue collection from indirect taxes in the country, including customs, central excise and service tax, rose to Rs150,686 crore during April-September 2010-11, showing a 44.4-per cent increase in revenue at an all-India level during the first half of the previous fiscal, ie, April-September 2009-10.

Revenue collection from customs duty increased 66.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs63,229 crore during the period while collection of central excise rose 40.7 per cent to Rs60,834 crore during April-September 2010-11.

Service tax revenue rose 14.8 per cent to Rs26,623 crore in April-September 2010-11 compared to the corresponding period in previous fiscal.

Total collection of indirect tax revenues at Rs150.686 crore  during April-September 2010 is 48.1 per cent of the budget estimates of 2010-11.

Given the current momentum, the finance ministry expects to achieve the revenue target for the current financial year.
