Consumer price inflation for industrial workers down at 9.88 per cent in August

Consumer price inflation rate for industrial workers based on the all-India consumer price index for industrial workers (base 2001=100) stood lower at 9.88 per cent in August 2010 against 11.25 per cent in the previous month.

The all-India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) remained stationary at 178 in August 2010.

During the month, the index recorded an increase of 5 points in Rangapara Tezpur centre, 4 points each in Mariani Jorhat, Munger, Jamalpur, Giridih, Asansol and Chhindwara centres, 3 points each in four centres, 2 points each in five centres and 1 point each in 12 centres.

The index decreased by 3 points in Jharia centre, by 2 points in 15 centres and by 1 point in 17 centres while it remained stationary in the remaining 18 centres.

The maximum increase of 5 points was recorded in Rangapara Tezpur centre where the prices of rice, mustard oil, green chillies, clothing items etc had gone up.

In Mariani Jorhat, higher prices of rice, wheat atta, mustard oil, turmeric powder, green chillies, vegetables, fruits etc caused an increase of 4 points in the index. In Munger Jamalpur, prices of rice, onion, tea (readymade), clothing etc rose pushing up the index by 4 points while, in Giridih, higher prices of rice, arhar dal, milk, turmeric powder, firewood etc led to the increase.
