UPA vs. the Yadavs: From no confidence to lack of confidence

New Delhi: The bravado of the Yadav duo, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav, much on display over the previous 48 hours, went missing today as the principal opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, snubbed their overtures to participate in a no-confidence motion against the ruling UPA formation.

The Yadav duo are now projecting a visible lack of confidence with the realisation that they would not be able to rustle up signatures of even 50 MPs, necessary to file such a motion with the Speaker of the House.

The snub was extended as an assortment of other opposition parties also politely refused to oblige the Yadavs.

For the Yadavs, a lack of enthusiasm amongst the opposition parties for their cause would only serve to rub salt over gaping wounds with the 108th Constitution Amendment Bill (Women's Reservation Bill) being passed in the Upper House of the Parliament after the unceremonious ejection of unruly members and the conduct of a debate remarked upon for its high quality.

All seven MPs ejected from the Upper House have also been suspended for the duration of the session.

''No question of bringing forth a no-confidence motion against the government as we don't have the required numbers,'' said a clearly annoyed Lalu today. ''We have only four MPs, no-confidence can only be brought by big parties.''
