India's industrial production up 10.3 per cent in October

Industrial production in the country grew by a robust 10.3 per cent year-on-year in October 2009, quick estimates released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.

The general index of industrial production (IIP) with base 1993-94=100 stood at 290.1 during October 2009 compared to the level in October 2008.

Cumulative growth for the period April-October 2009-10 stood at 7.1 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The production indices for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors during October 2009 rose 8.2 per cent, 11.1 per cent and 4.7 per cent to 189.4, 309.6, and 242.0, respectively, compared to the levels in October 2008.

Cumulative production growth for the three sectors during April-October 2009-10 stood at 7.9 per cent, 7.1 per cent and 6.5 per cent, respectively, which moved the overall growth in the general index to 7.1 per cent.

As many as 16 out of the 17 industry groups have shown positive growth during October 2009 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
