Chidambaram takes credit for Sensex'' upswing

New Delhi: Finance minister, P Chidambaram, has congratulated Indian corporates for having made a gain of Rs16,857 crore in the stock market on Friday. The Sensex touched an all-time intra-day high of 6,864.62 points before closing at 6,849 points.

Addressing members of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Chidambaram highlighted that market capitalisation of companies have gone up significantly since the announcement of the budget proposals.

"You are all richer by Rs72,095 crore since the budget announcement. You have made a gain of Rs16,857 crore only today in the stock markets," he said.
