Balasore, Odisha: India's indigenously developed, multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) weapon system, 'Pinaka' underwent a user demonstration trial for the Indian Army at a defence base, about 15 km from here.

"Four rounds of test-firing were conducted during the trial," defence sources said.

'Pinaka' is an unguided rocket and area domination weapon system aimed at supplementing the existing artillery guns at ranges beyond 30 km.

The system can act as a force-multiplier, defence sources said.

The demonstration trial took place at the Proof Experimental Establishment of the army with scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation present, sources said.

The Pinaka MBRL system has undergone several tough tests since 1995 and is in an advance stage of development.
