Washington DC, USA: The United States has cleared the delivery of 20 refurbished T-37 jet trainer aircraft for the Pakistan Air Force. These aircraft are being provided free of cost by the US government, with Pakistan only expected to bear shipment costs.

The delivery of the aircraft was authorized by the US administration on Wednesday. The Pakistan Air Force made a formal request for the aircraft last year, according to Husain Haqqani, Pakistan's ambassador to the US.

The T-37 twin engine trainer aircraft, drawn from the US Air Force inventory, will be refurbished before supply to Pakistan.

Earlier this week, the US released $116 million to finance mid-life upgrades for Pakistan's fleet of F-16 fighter jets. It has already supplied Pakistan one tranche of $108 million, from a total of $474 million assigned for the purpose.

Along with the upgrades, the US is also supplying 12 used F-16 jets.
