After Google and social networking websites Facebook and Twitter, it is now Yahoo's turn to promise to alert its users in the event that they suspected their accounts had been attacked by hackers engaged on behalf of governments (state-sponsored actors).

The Guardian reported that Yahoo's chief info safety officer Bob Lord informed of the development in a weblog.

''Yahoo will now notify you if we strongly suspect that your account might have been focused by a state-sponsored actor,'' stated Bob Lord.

''We'll present these particular notifications in order that our users can take applicable measures to shield their accounts and keep in mind those refined attacks. Our notifications present focused users with particular actions they will take to assist make sure that their Yahoo accounts are protected and safe,'' Lord added.

Similar announcements had been made by Facebook and Twitter in October and December respectively.
