Chennai: The city-based 11-year-old Vichitra Electronics has become the first Indian company to manufacture air-purifiers for passenger cars.

Priced at Rs3,750, the air-purifier comes with a two-year warranty and is currently sold in retail markets. The electronic gadget picks up dust, infectious organisms and other pollutants by its variable ionic field.

"We are in talks with car companies like Hyundai Motor India and Ford India for direct supplies," says Vichitra Electronics CEO S Venkataraaman. "Except Hyundai's Sonata model, no other air-conditioned car comes with an air purifier."
