Phone directory application Truecaller plans to partner with social networking site Twitter to expand its user base.

Under the partnership, Truecaller users in India would be able to see if a number was connected with a Twitter account, and would be able to tweet or follow a person directly through the Truecaller app.

"With this new integration, a Truecaller user can instantly tweet back to a missed call that has a Twitter account connected to the phone number. This is especially valuable for users in India who are looking for a fast, free and reliable way to communicate," TrueCaller CEO and co-founder Alan Mamedi said in a statement.

According to the estimates of the company, the current user base in India was about 22 million. Twitter had around 20 million users in India, according to a report by market research firm IMRB International and the Internet and Mobile Association of India released few months back.

Truecaller shows the name of the person calling to the user even if the number was not saved in the phone.

The application is available on Apple's iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Nokia, and Symbian devices at present.

According to the statement, Truecaller's Twitter integration was currently available to Android users, with plans for expanding to iOS in 2014.

Truecaller, a mobile database is crowdsourced by a community of people using the app and allows people to find out the name/pet name of a person by downloading the app.

The app can be used to type in a number and find details from the crowdsourced database about the person's, name, network and the network circle they were in.

By way of exchange, the app takes numbers and contacts from users' phone to update its global mobile database.
