Mumbai:
TVS Motor Company has reported an increase of 13 per cent in sales over September
2007, having recorded two wheeler sales of 129,614 units in October 2007. However,
this is 9 per cent lower as compared to the 142,325 units in October 2006. The
company expects sales to pick up with the launch of TVS Flame, which will strengthen
the company''s presence in the executive segment. The executive segment accounts
for over 50 per cent of the motorcycle market. New
product launches across various segments that have been on the drawing board for
some time, including that of the TVS Apache RTR EFI and TVS Scooty Teenz EV are
reportedly on course, according to a company release. TVS
plans to leverage the growth prospects of the three-wheeler market through the
launch of its three-wheeler variants over the coming months. During
the month, the company''s motorcycle sales recorded 67,752 units compared to 92,328
units recorded in October 2006. Though lower than the same period last year, the
month-on-month growth recorded was 25 per cent. TVS''s
recently launched upgrade TVS StaR City (110cc) has received good response, according
to the company. New product launches, that of the TVS Flame and TVS Apache RTR
EFI would plug the void in the company''s product portfolio in those respective
segments, and help the company to leverage a more full product portfolio in future,
according to the release. In
the scooter segment, TVS Scooty continued grow over last year, posting a 23 per
cent growth with 28,119 units in October 2007, as compared to 22,836 units during
the same period last year. The launch of TVS Scooty Teenz EV is expected to further
strengthen this segment as well. Exports
witnessed a quantum jump over the previous year, with the company exporting 11,046
units of two wheelers in October 2007, showing a growth of 53 per cent over October
2006''s figures of 7,232 units.
