Mumbai: Toyota Motor Co is planning to make India an export base for small cars even as the Japanese auto giant is looking to make India a global manufacturing hub for mid-sized cars.

Toyota, which is all set to emerge the world''s largest carmaker beating General Motors of the United States, this year itself, is likely to announce plans of its much-awaited small car within a couple of months, sources said.

Toyota is the fourth carmaker, after Hyundai, Maruti and Nissan, that is planning to make India a global export hub for small cars.

With plans to manufacture for world markets, sources said, Toyata is expected to make larger investments in the country.

Toyota is likely to export small cars made in India to markets in Brazil, Argentina, Europe, Malaysia and South Africa, sources poited out.

While it is still not certain whether Toyota would partner Daihatsu for the project, the small car, to be built on a new platform, is expected to be manufactured in a new plant near their existing unit in Bidadi.
