Nothing seems to be going right for the world's biggest car maker Toyota, as its problems have just shifted higher up from first gas pedals and brake defects, to now steering wheel problems in the Corolla sedan in the US.

Worse, the US government is planning to launch an investigation after receiving consumer complaints about steering problems with the 2009-10 Toyota Corolla, the Japanese car maker's second-most popular vehicle in the US market after the Camry sedan.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will probe into more than 150 complaints that it has received on steering problems on the 2009-10 Toyota Corolla Sedan vehicle from consumers in the US.

According to users of the 2009-10 Toyota Corolla sedan, the car starts to wander back and forth in the lane, for a few hundred yards, when driving on the highway over 60 mph, and the problem suddenly stops as suddenly as it starts.

NHTSA plans to start a preliminary investigation today on an estimated 5,00,000 Corolla vehicles.

This week, Toyota said that it may consider recalling the Corolla in Japan, though has yet to be informed officially by NHTSA of any formal probe into the Corolla.
