Toyota Kirloskar to launch Etios on 1 December

Toyota Kirloskar Motors, is set to launch its much-awaited Etios small car on 1 December, starting with selling the sedan version first, with the hatchback to follow three months later, according  to Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of Toyota. Nakagawa was speaking to DNA newspaper.

Toyota is betting a lot of is future in India on the Etios, which it sees as its next Corolla which has sold more than 2.4 crore units since the model was launched 37 years ago.

The company, once the largest carmaker has been looking to roll out a volume car much like its rival Suzuki, to take its market share in India into double digits.

Etios which has been four years in the making is meant to fulfill that end.

Nakagawa told DNA that the company' s current capacity stood at 70,000 vehicles per annum which it is trying to expand to 80,000 and the final goal was to make 140,000 to 150,000 vehicles a month.

Nakagawa said the second plant (coming up next to the current one in Bangalore) would make the Etios.
