Jaguar Land Rover to enter SUV-coupe market

The next new model of Range Rover, priced at £60,000 (Rs 59 lakh) is aimed at taking on the BMW X6.

Code named L560, the model is likely to be named Range Rover Sport Coupé. It had been known for some time that a Range Rover, which shared its alloy chassis with the Jaguar F-Pace, was under development. The make-up of the model, however, had been under wraps.

The Range Rover Sport Coupe' had been referred to as 'Evoque XL' and positioned between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, about three years ago.

At the time, Autocar UK had revealed Land Rover's 'three-pillar' brand strategy - Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover - the Sport Coupé with the launch of the model expected next year.

Insiders today continue to call it the Evoque Plus while publicly denying the existence of a production model.

Many details of the new Sport Coupe' remained secret while building-up to its launch, which was expected next year.

Autocar UK  had, however, built up a picture of the new model that would set fresh standards for a Range Rover's styling, interior and road-focused handling,  which the last of these coming courtesy of the F-Pace's suspension and lightweight aluminium body. The first battery electric vehicle from Range Rover might also be spun off the new model.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors had unveiled images of the Range Rover Evoque convertible in November last year. Reports suggested that the convertible variant was to be launched in more than 170 markets globally. Now, spy images of the Range Rover Evoque Convertible in India had been displayed over the internet.

Meanwhile, 'Evoque XL' had been positioned between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport.

The test-mule, spotted in India for the first time, bore UK registration number plates, and according to a report, the said variant was powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that producing 240 PS (237 hp) of power and 340 Nm of torque.
