Sybase subsidiary tops mobile DBMS market for sixth year

Mumbai: iAnywhere Solutions (www.ianywhere.com), a subsidiary of Sybase, has announced that it leads the mobile database market for the sixth year in a row.
The company's SQL Anywhere Studio powers mobile, remote, embedded and workgroup database solutions across a range of industries including field service, transportation, retail, utilities, financial services, healthcare and government.
Mobile DBMS giant Sybase was able to increase its share of the market from 68 per cent in 2000 to 73 per cent in 2001. As the market for mobile data solutions gathers momentum in India and the global economy improves, the mobile DBMS market is expected to pick up fairly rapidly.
Gartner is predicting a global compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 16 per cent through 2006. This will cause the market to more than double, from slightly under $70 million in 2001 to around $150 million in 2006, according to a report 'Mobile DBMS Software: In a Short-Term Stall,' (Colleen Graham; 16 December 2002).
