Mumbai: Anticipating a telecommunication revolution in India in the wake of the Internet-based telephony, which is likely to be available after 1 April 2002, Siemens, on 26 February, launched the HiPath 3000 range of EPABX/KTS. The range will enable enterprises implement new interactive convergence solutions like VoIP, IP-trunking, high-speed Internet access, tele-working, Net-meetings and multimedia-based CRM initiatives.

Launching the product at a press conference here, Siemens executive vice-president (information, communication and enterprise networks) Peter Gartneberg said the company has decided to launch the next-generation convergent communication platforms in India because the country is on the verge of a telecommunication revolution. He sees a vast potential for the growth of IP-based applications — like networking of LAN, video conferencing and mobile telephony — in India because of the opening up of the telecommunications sector after 1 April.

He described India as an IT powerhouse, because it will soon have a world-class broadband infrastructure, has highly-skilled manpower, a liberalised economy and a large number of small and medium enterprises outsourcing business for international groups.

The HiPath 3000 EPABX/KTS system has IP trunking capability that allows 1,000 users spread over 16 locations to communicate using VoIP over their existing IP infrastructure. Most state governments and enterprises are currently investing in convergent networks and solutions to facilitate better e-governance and business practices.

Gartenberg said Siemens is the only company to have introduced the next generation convergent communication platform with the launch of HiPath 3000 range of EPABX. "We have at least one year's lead over the others in this field." HiPath is already in use in several European countries and the US.
