CBI gets custody of Rajus, three others in Satyam scam

A city court in Hyderabad today allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take custody of disgraced Satyam chief Ramalinga Raju, his brother Rama Raju and three others for questioning in the Satyam-Mayatas scam.

The court in Nagpalli, Hyderabad granted CBI the custody of Ramalinga Raju, his brother and former managing director B Rama Raju, former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas and sacked Pricewaterhouse partners S Gopalakrishnan and Talluri Srinivas.

Pronouncing the orders, S Samuel Victor Emmanuel, the fourteenth additional chief metropolitan magistrate, directed the CBI to question the accused between 10 am and 5 pm in the presence of their lawyers.

A CBI headed by DIG VV Lakshmi Narayana is likely to interrogate the accused for the first time after taking up investigations into Rs7,800 crore (Rs78 billion) scam from the Andhra Pradesh CID last month.

The court dismissed the bail petition of former auditors of Pricwaterhouse, for a third time. The magistrate also posted to March 18 hearing on the bail petition of Vadlamani Srinivas.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate had on 6 March reserved its order on the CBI's plea for 9 March.

All the five accused were in judicial remand and were lodged in Chanchalguda jail.
