Power Grid's FY10 net surges 21 per cent to Rs2,041 crore

Central power transmission utility and Navratna PSU Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs2,041 crore for the financial year 2009-10 - a 21 per cent rise from the previous year's net profit of Rs1,691 crore.

Power Grid's turnover rose 22 per cent to Rs7,504 crore during the year from Rs6,139 crore in the previous financial year, an official release said.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) increased to Rs4.85 against Rs4.02 in the previous financial year.

Power Grid increased its capital expenditure to Rs10,586 crore in the 2009-10 financial year from Rs8,167 crore in the previous financial year.

The utility operated around 75,289 circuit km of transmission lines along with 124 sub-stations as of 31 March 2010, the release said.

Power Grid, which wheels around 50 per cent of the total power generated in the country, said it maintained average availability of transmission systems during the year 2009-10 at 99.77 per cent with the use of state-of-the-art preventive maintenance techniques.
