Datsun in its attempt to redefine the entry-level car segment, has lunched its cheapest compact hatchback redi-GO, with prices starting at Rs2.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The vehicle is being launched in five variants, with the top-end priced at Rs3.49 lakh.

Datsun, a sub-brand of Japan's Nissan, is calling the model an urban cross. The car is available in five colours (white, silver, grey, ruby and lime),

''With Datsun redi-GO, we offer a unique urban-crossover styled in Japan, developed and manufactured in India. We are redefining conventional expectations and notions associated with the entry level car segment in India with a modern, fresh, stylish and accessible product,'' said Guillaume Sicard, president of Nissan India Operations.

''The Datsun redi-GO comes at a compelling price point and reaffirms Datsun philosophy of dream, access and trust,'' he added.

The Datsun redi-GO showcases a new Japanese design philosophy called Yukan - which stands for brave and bold. It features a'Tall-Boy' styling and offers best-in-class ground clearance of 185 mm, extra roominess and excellent external visibility for the driver.

redi-GO is being launched with a comprehensive safety package – Datsun PRO-SAFE7 – that provides solutions such as shortest braking distance, high strength body shell to absorb impacts, superior suspension system and driver airbag among others.

It provides a mileage of 25.17 kmpl, while the all-new 0.8-litre three-cylinder i-SAT engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 15.9 seconds. It can achieve a top speed of 140 km/h.

The redi-GO is being launched with a 2-year, unlimited kilometres standard warranty. It also has an optional warranty for 2 or 3 years with unlimited kilometres with free roadside assistance.

Datsun redi-GO will be supported by 274 Nissan and Datsun sales and service touchpoints in India starting today. With the projected 300 dealerships, Datsun will be able cover up to 90 per cent of current and prospective customers in the country and provide them with easy and immediate access to sales and after-sales services.
