NTPC net down 18% at Rs2,496 cr in Q2

State-run power utility NTPC reported an 18 per cent drop in standalone net profit at Rs2,495.97 crore for fiscal second quarter ended 30 September 2016, against a net profit of Rs3,039.23 crore for corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

NTPC's total income increased from Rs18,218.16 crore a year ago to Rs19,588.56 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal.

Last year, however, NTPC benefited from refunds and other receivables on account of tax adjustments.

The company said its revenue from electricity generation increased to Rs19,491.54 crore in the quarter against Rs17,993.50 crore in the period year quarter.

Gross generation in the quarter stood at 60.593 BU (billion units) against 60.160 billion units while electricity sent out rose to 56.476 BU in the second quarter against 55.875 BU a year ago.

The company's plant load factor declined to 74.65 per cent compared to 77.27 per cent a year ago. PLF at company's hydro power plants was 92.58 per cent in the quarter against 83.29 per cent a year ago. PLF at gas-based plants was 23.57 per cent in the period compared to 25.73 per cent last year. Capacity utilisation was 13.86 per cent in the second quarter compared to 14.78 per cent in the year-ago quarter.
