NTPC's post-tax profit up 5.55 per cent at Rs8,657 crore

Public sector power utility National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) today reported a 5.55 per cent increase in its provisional, un-audited profit after tax (PAT) at Rs8,656.53 crore for the year 2009-10, against Rs8,201.30 crore during the previous year (2008-09).

NTPC, the country's largest power producer, also paid the highest interim dividend of 30 per cent, amounting to Rs2,473.64 crore, during the year.

Net sales (provisional) of the utility rose 11.28 per cent to Rs46,504.47 crore during 2009-10 against Rs41,791.30 crore in the previous financial year. Gross revenue (provisional) was up 9.29 per cent at Rs49,478.86 crore during 2009-10 against Rs45,272.76 crore for the year 2008-09.

During the year, NTPC undertook capital expenditure of Rs10,137.18 crore while the group as a whole made investments to the tune of Rs14,002.11 crore.

For 2010-11, NTPC has lined up capital schemes of an approved outlay of Rs22,350 crore. The proposed outlay for the NTPC group as a whole is around Rs29,104.06 crore.

During the year, NTPC contributed Rs3,260.21 crore to the exchequer by way of corporate tax, dividend tax thereon and wealth tax.
