McDonald’s to offer all-day breakfast from 6 October

The long wait for McDonald's breakfast lovers has almost ended.

Company officials announced yesterday that they would start serving breakfast all-day nationally on 6 October. The move was approved by restaurant operators in a vote yesterday.

McDonald's had been testing all-day breakfast in select markets for several months being told by customers that they wanted to be able to get an Egg McMuffin at any time of the day. The last year had seen the company count 120,000 requests on Twitter calling for breakfast items to be served all day.

"It's been the number one requested thing from our customers for years," McDonald's President Mike Andres told USA TODAY. "The people have spoken and we are responding."

But the company had resisted serving breakfast past 10:30 am over concern that restaurant operators did not have enough grill space to prepare meals and breakfast items simultaneously.

But in July, the fast food chain had initiated the step when franchisees were asked to prepare for a possible roll-out of the all-day breakfast menu this fall.

McDonald's franchisees had voted to start offering all-day breakfast on 6 October, and investors hope the move would revive sales that have been declining.

McDonald's all-day breakfast menu would include hotcakes, yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, hash browns, sausage burritos and either McMuffin sandwiches, or biscuit sandwiches, the company said.

According to Richard Adams, a former McDonald's franchisee turned consultant, McDonald's had told franchisees that all-day breakfast would lure 200 extra customers a week per restaurant, Reuters reported.

However, there are concerns that extended breakfast service could complicate operations and slow service at a time when simplification and streamlining the menu had been a priority.
