Labour unrest continued to smoulder strongly at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant in the Gurgaon automotive belt, as leaders of the agitating workers today approached district authorities here seeking intervention in their dispute with the management.

Around 1,500 workers also staged a protest rally near the mini-secretariat in Gurgaon, demanding that the company management should not force them to sign a 'good conduct bond'.

Maruti's flagship plant suffered its first and perhaps worst strike in 10 years in June. Workers downed their tools 13 days, demanding to split from the official Maruti union and form their own union.

The latest unrest is over the management demand that all workers sign the conduct bond, which the management says is necessary to ensure that product quality is not sabotaged. It has crippled production at the plant since 29 August, although output has not yet come to a grinding halt.

Representatives of the workers met additional deputy commissioner V K Hooda, apprised him of the situation at the plant, and submitted their demands.
