Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's largest car manufacturer, today unveiled a sportier and stylish 'Swift'. The much-awaited all new Swift has a longer and wider platform, is more fuel efficient and has improved acceleration and plush interiors.

The new Swift has a high power-to-weight ratio and improved fuel efficiency and offers better acceleration. With over 140 new features, the new Swift is set to once again redefine the `premium compact' car segment that Swift itself had created, Maruti Suzuki said in a release.

The new Swift is built on an all-new platform, which is longer and wider than its predecessor.

With reduced weight, the new Swift is more fuel-efficient. It gives an additional 6 per cent in the diesel version and 4 per cent more in the petrol version.

The company has introduced the VVT engine technology in all petrol variants of the new Swift while the DDiS engine powers the diesel variant.

The next generation Swift has a localisation level of over 95 per cent. Maruti Suzuki and its suppliers have invested over Rs550 crore to make the new Swift more vibrant and sportier, the company said in its release.

The Swift, which entered the Indian market six years ago, has sold over 6,00,000 units so far, making it by far the highest selling car in the premium compact segment.

The new Swift will further strengthen and expand its position in the premium hatchback segment, Maruti Suzuki said.

"We have launched the new Swift at a time when there was significant demand for the outgoing model. In keeping with the Swift's iconic status, we had to ensure that the brand continues to offer the latest and the best in terms of features, design, performance and aspiration. I am confident that the new Swift will create new benchmarks with its improved fuel efficiency, stylish & sportier looks and high performance," Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, said.
