Mahindra launches new three-wheeler

Kochi: Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its diesel three-wheeler the Alfa Passenger, in Kochi. The vehicle is priced at Rs1.3 lakh. The automaker is also planning to launch CNG and LPG versions of the Alfa ''in the near future.''
India has a good market potential for three-wheelers with an annual sales of around 2.2 lakh vehicles. The three-wheeler three-seater segment grew by 2 per cent in the current financial year over the last financial year and is expected to grow further on account of infrastructure development and increasing transportation needs.
However, the three-wheeler petrol segment recorded a decline while the diesel segment grew by 18 per cent year-on-year. The other major segment contributing to overall growth is the gas segment which grew by 42 per compared to the previous year.
The sales volume of the diesel segment in three-wheeler category is around 62 per cent of the total sales while petrol contributes to 22 per cent, according to the company.
