Professional networking site, LinkedIn today said it had crossed 30 million-user mark in India, its largest market outside the US.

The company boasts over 364 million members globally.

According to LinkedIn country manager in India Nishant Rao told PTI this marked a 50-per cent growth over the past two years.

LinkedIn had 3.4 million members when it started operations in the country in 2009. He added, India continued to be the largest market for LinkedIn after the US in terms of member base.

He added the 30 million members represented a diverse cross-section of skills (from management and human resources to testing and training) and industries (from tech to education and automotive), he added.

The company had over 24 million users in India in February 2014, with more than 277 million members globally.

He added LinkedIn had reached a critical mass in India, a country that remained a strategic market for it. He said the company also saw a significant opportunity to collaborate with key players in India in areas like skills development, so that its members could create an even more significant impact on the economy.

LinkedIn had also introduced features to help professionals in career journeys - for instance, University Pages, Apply for job on LinkedIn Mobile and Revamped Groups.

Rao claimed the company had also strengthened its editorial presence in India, increasing its focus on making LinkedIn the definitive platform for professionals to gain knowledge and insights that mattered to them.

According to LinkedIn, its research showed 53 per cent of students and young professionals believed the best way to get their first job was through internships.

To help them find these, LinkedIn had partnered with MTV and other major companies such as Flipkart and L'Oreal.

The partnerships had seen 85,000 students apply for internship opportunities.
